BrunkaConverting a Huffy Solstice aluminium frame mountain bike I bought in 2001, incidentally it has a seriously large 230 mm ( 9" dia. ) mechanical caliper front wheel disc brake, to a purely simple exercise road bike, it had a 7 speed SRAM twist grip shifter to rear mech. didn't really like them. I had a good lightweight road race bike I built up about 45 yrs ago & used down tube friction shifters on it for at least 40+ yrs, Fitted the thumb shifters to the Huffy & they work great, super simple to use, definitely not for the " mechanically challenged " as you need to feel & hear the chain run as you shift as there in no " click shift " or indexing as U change gears , but having used friction shifters as I said for about 40 yrs I find them no problem whatsoever to use & for $20.00 a dead set bargain, nothing fancy but they do the job 100% & probably last 100 yrs without having to touch them or replace them .
