Excellent entry level value
BrianBy: BrianComfortable shoes for walking and pedaling, perfect for commuting, light touring or off-road use. If you are not sure if clipless pedals are for you, this is a great way to try it without spending a lot of cash. The pedals are all metal and surprisingly smooth, with sealed spindle bearings. The pedal reflectors are rubbish and you will break them, let them go, you don’t need them. The pedal mechanism is quite robust and works even when full of mud and stuff. The flat side of the pedal is broad and bitey, world well for regular shoes or on the mud. The only real detractor is the long laces on the shoes with only a moderately effective elastic loop for retaining the ends. There is a small chance the laces could work loose while riding and if they get caught in the chain the consequences can be a catastrophic clip stack. A wrap of tape around the laces does the trick. I bought these for my 11 year old son who is just getting into riding; after about 200km clipped in he says he can never go back to platform pedals. The shoes themselves are not a high performance product but excellent value. The pedals and cleats are quite good for the money, easy to clip in and step out, adjustable retainer tension, and plenty of holding power. The pedals will last way longer than the shoes.
